Mother Tree
by Loretta Oleck
A passionate tree-hugger willing to sacrifice everything to save the redwoods is at odds with her sister about the importance of her priorities. Mother Tree, a short dramatic play, illuminates the choices and sacrifices made on individual/personal levels versus community/collective/global levels. Through an uncovering of how past familial dynamics and trauma influence current life decisions, the sisters’ strong bond becomes challenged. Mother Tree, although confronting the dire need to protect our Redwoods, also provokes the audience to assess their own personal convictions, and ask themselves some tough questions— How much would you personally sacrifice for the greater good? How far would you go to stand up for your beliefs? And, ultimately, are the bonds of family strong enough to weather the passion of conflicting ideals?

Even though lovers and family members have come and gone in their lives, their friendship will stand the test of time.
