An adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, stitched together and brought to life with the help of over one hundred detainees at the Manhattan Detention Complex. Join us for the human tale of a creature who is taught she's a monster from the moment she opens her eyes. In this reanimation, she’s stuck inside a television that won’t stop changing channels.
This summer, we had the privilege of devising this new telling of Frankenstein with and for detainees at the Manhattan Detention Complex. It’s been a monster of a process, and the artists we worked with in jail were crucial to the making of this hilarious and human romp through the Creature’s story.
Before we return to MDC in October, we're performing the work we made in jail at the Tank to share the significance art has inside these facilities with you. Art that is playful, heartfelt, and collaborative can briefly disrupt the challenging transitions the audiences in jail are living through. We’re incredibly grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with and perform for these folks, and we can’t wait to share this project and process with you.
