The Apartment Plays

  • The Tank 312 W 36th St New York, NY, 10018 United States (map)

Playdate Theatre invites you to join the Live Studio Audience for their taping of The Apartment Plays, three original comedic micro-plays all written based on the same set design. As the first virtual theater company, Playdate is dedicated to exploring the space between theater and film and creating new media by breaking these boundaries.

In April 2021, Playdate held a new work development conference where writers from all over the world created a play prompted by a scenic rendering. Over 200 plays were workshopped over the course of 10 days and three were chosen to be produced. This show turns the idea of virtual theater on its head by blending elements: the set design of the show is projected and based upon the original rendering that prompted the writers-- the virtual background is brought into reality.

Our show stars emerging NY-based comedians, multi-media artists, and seasoned theater & film makers. As the final production of the event is meant to be streamed as if you were watching a sitcom at home, we are opening a limited number of seats for audience members to join us in person as our live studio audience. Similar to a live sitcom, writers will be reworking their scripts each night and no two shows will be the same.

This show includes jokes about death, robbery, murder, and demons.
