Paris, 1860(ish). Aspiring painters Matt and Will are students at the cutthroat Académie des Beaux-Arts. They’ll be in the Louvre before they’re thirty! Well. One of them will. But that doesn’t matter yet. Right now, they can be friends. Performed with live drawing and painting, The Draw is an all-out brawl between two actors-slash-artists. Matt and Will—played by women and nonbinary performers, in drag—doodle, sketch, and speedpaint masterpieces for the great Paris Salon, the exhibition which will make or break their careers. In the end, the audience votes on a winner—but does ‘making it’ as an artist have to be a zero-sum game? The Draw explores artistic rivalry, professional envy, and the gendered dynamics of model and muse.
