For regeneration
For odd stories and the unexpected ways we find joy during seismic shifts
For the beat of our bodies, for the strength inherent
For being seen in our wholeness, from our joys to hardships, wackiness and whimsies

Ascend! is a cathartic documentary theater show that centers on the (in)visibility, joys, and reclamations of East Asian + AAPI women during the past two years. Created and written by Amy Zhang (Patriot Act, Ping Chong + Company), this experimental show is inspired by crowd-sourced surveys, conversations with performers, meditations, movements, and beats. The show reclaims space in a year where space was fraught, and asks, how can we feel good in our bodies again?

This workshop is presented as part of the City Artist Corps program in partnership with NYFA and Made in NY.

This Program is Made Possible by the New York City Artist Corps. From now until October 31st, the Tank is presenting free in-person programming through the City Artist Corps Grants. City Artist Corps Grants, established by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and New York Foundation for the Arts, has offered $5,000 stipends to thousands to artists across the five boroughs. Money goes directly to the artists of New York who have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. These grants have provided an opportunity for the public to engage with free live performances, and allowed artists in need to continue sustaining their practice and art-form in an in-person setting.

*Please note that this performance will be presented at the Tank's in-person performance space at 312 W 36th St. All attendees and artists will be required to display proof of full covid vaccination before being admitted to the space, either by showing a vaccination record (vaccination card) at least two weeks out from the final dose of an approved vaccine, or by using New York's free Excelsior Pass service, available here. Patrons will also be required to wear masks while indoors at all times and for the time being, no food or beverage will be permitted to be consumed at the theater.
