Helens of American Troy

  • The Tank 312 West 36th Street, First Floor New York, NY 10018 United States (map)

“In ancient story we are told that one of our sex remaining in Troy wrought harm to the Greeks. In modern recital may it be said that women of American Troy have done them lasting good.” — Emma Willard, 1833

In the heat of a boiler room in the basement of Main Hall at the Emma Willard School for Girls in Troy, New York meet The Helens, a secret society for the radical advancement of young women. In this modern recital of Emma Willard’s vision for the future of all-female education, The Helens of Troy plan to head toward the Greeks of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Fraternity Row, just across Route Sixty-Six. All they have to do first, is to convince their newest member that having been kidnapped is the best thing that’s ever happened to her.
